Has read it THREEtimes since last night! ππ
Three. Times. Since. Last. Night.
Violet, the chickens have officially claimed you. There is no going back now. πβ¨
Here is the thing about Violet β she is a little older than our usual chicken crowd. We thought maybe the chickens would have to work a little harder. Nope. Not even a little. That kite went up in grandma's pink, floppy hat and Violet was giggling. π
And mom? Mom loves it too. So really, one book. Two readers. One very good night at Violet's house. π₯Ή
Look at that smile. That is not a polite smile. That is not an "I am holding this book for a photo" smile. That is a full-face, eyes-crinkled, completely-taken-over-by-chickens smile. ππ
Violet, your braids, your pink dress, and that joy you are holding right along with that book β we are so grateful. So deeply, genuinely grateful. You reminded us exactly why these stories exist. π
To Violet's mom β thank you for sharing her with us. Three times since last night is the highest honor these chickens have ever received. π₯Ήπβ¨

Two bookworms. One chicken book. ππ
Two bookworms. One chicken book!
Best. Review. Ever.
"He has already read it to them twice." π₯Ή
And if you look closely, Wildman is peeking around the corner in the background, and that is exactly what older brothers do when they pretend they are not interested but absolutely are. ππ
Let's be honest. Big G is hooked on the chickens too. ππ
Big G and Mimi, thank you for sharing your Wildman and Little Sister with us. That curly hair, those pink glasses, and that pure joy are everything a children's book author could ever hope to see. πβ¨π

π April 4, 2026 was one of those days I will not forget for a long time.
Books, chickens, and a Sharpie β come get yours signed!
Thank you β from the bottom of my heart β to the Tractor Supply in Sharpsburg, Georgia, and to Mr. Doug and Miss Cynthia who said yes and let me hold the book signing there!
Thank you to every single person who stopped by the table, picked up a book and the coloring pages, or simply smiled and said something kind. You made this day more than I could have hoped for. Watching children open If Chickens Had Hands for the first time β seeing their faces β makes my heart so happy...
What started as a book for my own grandchildren is now tonight being read to many grandchildren! How cool is that?? Every little smile and them holding the book close to their body when they walked away was a gift.
Newsflash: I may, Lord willing, have an opportunity to visit a few local elementary schools soon, and I cannot wait!!
Several of you asked about the next books in the series β If Fish Had Feet, If Bees Had Knees, and If Foxes Had Fingers... I have them written, and I am working as fast as I can to get them illustrated too! Your excitement is the best fuel there is.
For everyone who has already ordered a book, your book is on its way to you, and you should have it within just a few days... depending on where you live!!
Thank you for believing in this little book and this big dream... Thank you!
Copies available for purchase. Cash, Venmo, and ordering via heronletterpress.com are accepted.
Local author Caryn Broome to read childrenβs book at Carnegie Library
Join local author Caryn Broome for a free reading of If Chickens Had Hands at the beautiful Newnan Carnegie Library β coloring pages included!
A longtime Newnan resident is turning a lunchtime joke with her grandchildren into a children's book β and now she's bringing it to Carnegie Library!
Please join the fun on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at the Newnan Carnegie Library, 1 LaGrange Street, Newnan, Georgia at 10 a.m. Caryn will be reading If Chickens Had Hands to kids of all ages! Admission is free and coloring pages will be available.
Broome said her book began as a spontaneous conversation with her grandchildren over lunch in downtown Newnan.
"We were eating chicken, and I was trying to get my granddaughter to hurry up," Broome said. "They said, 'Chickens don't have hands.' So I asked, 'What would they do if they did have hands?'"
What followed was a flood of imaginative answers, so much so that Broome began recording their ideas on her phone. She later shaped those ideas into a playful, laugh-out-loud rhyming picture book that invites children to imagine a world where chickens might grab, catch and create just like people.
In addition to If Chickens Had Hands, Broome is already working on a sequel titled If Fish Had Feet.
